The US Military Academy in West Point ordered 12 official sanctions for women and ethnic or racial groups to close immediately, in an effort to comply with Trump’s instructions for diversity, equality and integration, the Academy said.
In a Tuesday note, the deputy commander of the Academy, Chad R. Foster, said the clubs were dismantled “according to recent presidential executive orders, the Ministry of Defense and the Army Department”.
The dozen clubs that are immediately dismantled include the Corbin Forum, a team to promote female leaders, founded in 1976, when women first became the West Point. The Latin Cultural Association. The National Black Engineering Company. The Vietnamese-American Cadet Association. Spectrum, for Cadets LGBTQ. And the Club Society of Women Engineers. The Academy also examines other teams on the campus, the note said. All clubs named in the note were ordered to “disable, disable, archive or otherwise remove all the content facing the public”.
On Wednesday, the homepage of the National Company Black Engineers Club had an error message on it by saying “oh!” with large letters.
Drew Fitzsimmons, a West Point graduate who founded the Organization’s spectrum while on campus in 2012, said he was “frustrated and frustrated by the decision”.
Mr Fitzsimmons said the team had weekly meetings that created a companionship between the captains and prepared them for leadership.
“Affiliate groups such as this provide a safe space for people with a similar background,” said Fitzsimmons, who is currently the executive director of a non -profit organization called Knights Out, which provides support for the members of the service LGBTQ and their families.
The note stated that the Directive canceled all travel, meetings, events and other activities related to clubs, which were no longer authorized to conduct informal activities using government times, resources or facilities.
The US Military Academy of Communications Office confirmed closures in a statement published Wednesday. “According to recent guidance, the US military academy is considering programs and activities linked to the former office of diversity, equality and integration,” the statement said. “The Associations dissolved yesterday were funded by this office.”
On his first day at the post, President Trump signed an executive mandate to end the initiatives for diversity, equality and integration into the federal government and supported by federal funds, promises to “forge a society based on pigments and values” . Since then, federal departments have set dozens of officials linked to a license dei programs, including some who seemed to be distant to diversity initiatives.
The order also called on the US Attorney General and the Department of Education to issue guidance for institutions to comply with the 2023 Supreme Court ruling that end the entrances based on colleges and universities. This decision does not apply to West Point and other military academies, which are now the focus of separate lawsuits that question the use of affirmative action.
