United Automobile Workers Union leader expressed partial support on Thursday for Trump’s tariffs, saying that targeted tasks in other countries could help restore construction work in the United States.
But the president of the Union, Shawn Fain, described President Trump’s world invoices as “reckless”. In a management to the UAW members broadcast on YouTube and other social media, he also strongly criticized the administration for federal workers and the cutting of basic government services and accused her of breaking the political rights of students and others.
“We support the use of certain tariffs for car manufacturing and similar industries. We do not support invoices for political games on immigration or fentanyl,” Mr Fain said. “We do not support reckless invoices in all countries with crazy prices.”
The management appeared with the aim of removing the leader of the Union from Mr Trump. In the past few weeks, Mr Fain praised White House invoices and faced some criticism of the nearest administration that often shows hostility in organized work. He often campaigned and enthusiastically for former Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic Presidential Candidate, often hitting crowds referring to Mr Trump as “scabies”.
“We do not align what we do with Trump’s administration,” Mr Fain said on Thursday. “We negotiate Trump’s administration.”
Mr Fain used the management to reiterate well-known allegations that the free trading agreements-in particular, the North American Free Trade Agreement-allowed companies to transport US factories and jobs to low wage countries. He said that about 90,000 factories in the United States have been closed for the last 30 years, hollowing out of flints such as Flint, Mich., And Gary, Ind.
While accusing both the Democrats and the Republicans of supporting politicians who hurt us the construction, Mr Fain said that the resulting “pain and anger” had led many workers who traditionally supported the Democrats to be burdened by Mr Trump.
“We have to end this disaster of free trade and we do not care if it is a democratic or democrat who does it,” he said.
Mr Fain said General Motors, Ford Motor and Stelantis had excessive production capacity in their American plants and could create thousands of car jobs, fully utilizing.
He added that he disagreed with “90 percent of what Trump’s administration is doing”, especially cuts at National Institutes of Health that have disturbed cancer research and other diseases.
“We have seen the destruction of negotiation rights for a million federal workers. We have seen an attack on the National Council of Labor Relations and the illegal firing of a member of the Board of Directors,” he said. “We have seen the attacks on social security and Medicare and Medicaid, programs that millions in the working class depending on.”
Mr Fain did not mention Elon Musk, who, as a consultant by Trump, has led to efforts to shoot tens of thousands of federal workers and make deep cuts to organizations, including the Department of Education and the Veteran Department. Mr Musk, Tesla’s chief executive, has strongly opposed UAW’s efforts to organize Tesla workers in the United States.
Mr Fain noted that Mahmoud Khalil, a recent graduate of Columbia University, who was arrested by federal migrant agents last month, was once a student trainer represented by UAW Grant Miner, a postgraduate student who was a postgraduate student with UAW 27 It represents Columbia students.
