The British administrative party on Saturday said it had suspended Dan Norris, one of his legislators in parliament after being arrested by police.
Mr Morris “is immediately suspended by the Workers’ Party after his information on his arrest,” the party said in a statement, adding that “it cannot comment further while the police investigation is continuing”.
The party did not clarify why Mr Norris, 65, was arrested and did not respond immediately to comments on Saturday.
In Britain, police usually do not reveal the name of the suspects unless accused. The BBC said Mr Norris was arrested under suspicion of rape, child sexual offenses, kidnapping of children and abuse in public office.
In a statement that did not give names, police Avon and Somerset said a man in the 1960s was arrested Friday for suspicion of sexual offenses against a girl, rape, kidnapping, kidnapping and misconduct in public office. Police said they had been released under conditional guarantee.
“In December 2024, we received a referral from another police over alleged non -recorded sexual offenses committed against a girl,” the police statement said.
“Most of the offenses are supposed to occur in the 2000s, but we are also investigating a alleged rape offense from the 2020s,” he added. Police said the investigation was “continuous and early”.
Labor Party Movement is expected to mean that Mr Norris will pending the investigation, to be effectively suspended by the party’s representation in the House of Commons.
Last year, Mr Norris won a place in the parliament representing North East Somerset and Hanham, near the city of Bristol, beating a former conservative minister of the Council of Ministers, Jacob Rees-Mogg.
Mr Norris is also the mayor of Western England, a position he has held since 2021, though he does not run for re -election when this position is disputed on May 1st.
His political career is going back more than two decades. Mr Norris was a legislator from 1997 to 2010, representing the Wansdyke headquarters in the west of England. He was an assistant whip in the government of Tony Blair from 2001 to 2003 and a lower minister in the Department of Environment, Food and Agricultural Affairs from 2009 to 2010, under Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
