Police at Baton Rouge, La., Investigating whether an episode that causes a fraternity may have played a role in the recent death of a 20 -year -old southern university student, university officials said Wednesday.
The student, Caleb Wilson, of New Orleans, died at 12:27 am On February 27, the East Baton Rouge Coroner office said. A university research on his death began after rumors of “non -exhausted activities outside the campus” began to swell, the university, whose full name is Southern University and Agricultural & Mechanical College, announced the social media. The activities are believed to have been organized by the Beta Sigma chapter of the Omega PSI Phi Brotherhood, the university said.
“We have been informed that local authorities have begun an investigation into this tragic incident,” the Brotherhood said in a statement on its website on February 28.
The judge’s office said that the “cause and way of way” of Mr Wilson’s death was still under investigation. The Baton Rouge Police Department, which is investigating Mr Wilson’s death, did not immediately respond to an email or a phone call requesting additional information on Wednesday.
“An incident outside the campus is believed to have contributed to the death of Caleb,” John K. Pierre, Chancellor for the school, said on February 27 in a message on Facebook. “South University is fully working with the Baton Rouge police station.”
It is not clear whether Mr Wilson was a member of the Brotherhood.
Mr. Wilson was inferior to Southern University, a historical black institution, dealing with mechanical engineering. He was also a member of the band “Human Jukebox”, the famous collective music team of the school that integrates dance and music and has appeared in Super Bowls and Presidential Instractions.
“This tragic loss leaves a gap in the Jaguar family,” the school said, referring to the university mascot. “Our thoughts and prayers are with our family, friends, classmates and beloved Caleb during this incredibly difficult period.”
The University of the South also stated that a “judicial student process” had begun after Mr Wilson’s death.
“Caleb was a bright and talented young man with a promising future ahead of him,” his family said in a statement provided to WAFB, a local television station. “We are determined to seek the truth about the circumstances surrounding the passage of Caleb and ensuring that no other family should endure such a tragedy.”

In recent years, there has been a suppression of clearing the fraternity in schools across the country and many states have passed legislation to address the problem.
Earlier this year, four fraternity members at the University of San Diego were charged with counting a felony after a fire promise during a skit at a party last year.
In October, two men accused of death of 2017 for the deaths of a second year student at the University of Pennsylvania were sentenced to two to four months in prison.
