X agreed to pay in the $ 10 million area to settle a lawsuit brought by President Trump to suspend his account in 2021 on the social media platform, according to a person informed of the matter.
The company, then known as Twitter, removed Mr Trump from its platform after a riot in the American Capitol on January 6, 2021, citing its inflammatory positions and claiming that they could lead to more violence. Mr Trump sued, supporting Twitter and other technology companies that removed his accounts, had censored him.
Elon Musk, now owner of X and a close adviser to the president, restored Mr Trump’s account shortly after acquiring the company in 2022. $ 250 million in his campaign and is now running a government -cutting government, called government efficiency.
The settlement further is the relationship between Mr Musk and Mr Trump. Details of the agreement were not made public on judicial deposits, but X and Mr Trump informed the Ninth Circuit Court on Friday that they agreed to reject the lawsuit. Both parties agreed to pay their own expenses, according to a court deposit.
The amount of settlement was previously mentioned by the Wall Street Journal. An X spokesman did not respond to a request for comments. It was not immediately clear which entity would receive the money.
Mr Trump sued Twitter, Facebook and Google, the parent company of YouTube, after platforms suspended his accounts after the Capitol attack. After the turmoil, Mr Trump had used his Twitter account to praise his supporters, calling the “patriots”.
Mr Trump also published that he would not attend the inauguration of Joseph R. Biden Jr., who said the Twitter security teams then could mark his supporters to carry out another attack. Twitter said it suspended Mr Trump’s account “because of the risk of further motivation of violence”.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp, settled his lawsuit last month, agreeing to pay the president $ 25 million. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of META, has also accelerated Mr Trump in recent months, donating to his inaugural fund and making sweeping changes to Meta policies to allow more types of speech in all applications of the company.
In December, ABC News agreed to pay $ 15 million to settle a defamation trial by Mr Trump. ABC News said she would donate money to the future Presidential Foundation and the Museum of Trump.
Meta agreed on similar terms in his settlement with Mr Trump. About $ 22 million will finance Mr Trump’s presidential library, with the remaining $ 3 million aside for Mr Trump’s legal fees and other plaintiffs who joined the lawsuit.
