Transgender women will be banned from playing for women’s football teams in England since June 1st, the Football Federation, the community of the sport in the country, said.
In a statement, the Football Association, known as FA, said that it had changed its policy as a result of the Supreme Court’s ruling last month, that Britain’s equality laws were based on “biological sex” and that women do not fall under the legal definition of women.
FA is the last body to inform its policies as a result of the crisis, which all public and private bodies in Britain must now be integrated into internal practice into one -sex services and spaces.
The Association stated that the Supreme Court’s ruling demanded to change, which means that “transsexual women will no longer be able to play in women’s football in England”. The ban covers football and regional leagues governed by FA as well as professional games.
“We understand that this will be difficult for people who just want to play the game they love in the sex with which they find and communicate with registered women who play today to explain the changes and how they can continue to stay in the game,” the link added.
Other sports bodies are in the process of developing policies arising from the Supreme Court’s ruling. The Scotland Football Association also announced that from the beginning of the 2025-26 season, “only biological females will be allowed to play in competitive girls and women’s football.”
