Ukraine agreed to stop attacks on energy spaces
President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine yesterday agreed on Russia’s offer for a mutually cessation of attacks on energy targets for 30 days as a step towards a wider ceasefire.
He accepted the pause on a phone call with President Trump, who described the discussion as “very good”. Zelensky called on the discussion “positive, very meaningful and honest”, making it clear that he had thanked Trump for the support of America.
The two leaders spoke a day after Trump’s conversation with Vladimir Putin, Russia’s leader. It was the first time Trump and Zelensky had spoken from the devastating Oval Office meeting last month.
Trump also put the idea that the US could take control of Ukrainian power stations – an idea that Ukrainian energy experts said they were probably non -functional. The White House said the teams would meet in Saudi Arabia “in the coming days” to discuss the expansion of cessation to cover the activity in the Black Sea “on the road to a complete ceasefire”.
What will follow: Zelensky said the deal would require US monitoring and that Kiev would prepare a list of sites that needed protection. “Just Putin’s claim and reason that he will not hit energy spaces are very small,” he said. “The war made us practical people.”
Analysis: Most of what Putin agreed Tuesday’s call with Trump, rotates as a concession, but the Russian leader did not really ground.

Canada moves closer to Europe
As Canada is threatened by President Trump, talks aiming to let participation in a project to expand the EU military industry are ongoing. An agreement would allow Canada to help build European fighters and other equipment in its own industrial facilities.
The goal is to boost Europe’s defense industry and offer Canada a reliable alternative to the US market, officials said. Canada’s new Prime Minister Mark Carney this week visited Paris and London on his first trip abroad from taking over his duties, calling Canada “the most European of non -European countries”.
Background: Canada is a regular US contractor and its factories produce ammunition, tanks, aircraft, technological defense systems and naval ships. A review in 2022 found that the top destination of its military equipment was by far, it was the US
What will follow: The EU’s partnership and initiative will take years to bear fruit. European defense has fallen back due to the underpinning and the US domination, a situation that has become more apparent, as the effort in ARM in Ukraine exhausted the EU members’ arsenals.
Israel seized ground in Gaza
The Israeli forces pushed deeper into the Gaza Strip yesterday, occupying parts of a large corridor that divides it, the most important territory operation from the collapse of a fragile truce with Hamas.
The soldiers began “targeted ground activities” along the road, known as a Netzarim corridor, to create a “partial buffer zone” in the territory between the North and the South, the army said.
The operation followed a wide -scale of airspace in Gaza that began on Tuesday. Hamas did not respond militarily. In Jerusalem, thousands of Israeli protesters demanded a renewed ceasefire.
Photos from Gaza: For two months, a ceasefire of the fire broke the Palestinians the gloomy task of locating bodies. Now it’s back to that.
Yemen: President Trump said Houthi fighters would be “completely exhausted” by US military strikes and warned Iran to “immediately” stop giving them military equipment and general support.
In Paraswara, a village in a rural corner of India, twelve men were sworn in this month to form a local government. Half had not been elected – their spouses had.
The violation of women in agricultural Indian policy is nothing new, but some are beginning to promote the “boss’s spouses”.
Lives lived: Anthony Dolan, who as head of Ronald Reagan’s speechwriter developed the phrase “Evil Empire” in 1983 to describe the Soviet Union, died at 76.

Why airline pilots don’t always seek help
In times of struggle, US pilots face a high wire calculation: Stay silent or get the help they need and are at risk of being officially diagnosed with a mental health condition. Those who do can never fly again.
Troy Merritt, above all, struggled with suicide thoughts when he finally asked for the care he needed. But taking antidepressants required full 18 months away from his work as a pilot – and spends more than $ 10,000 on medical evaluations.
“Because a pilot’s work is sensitive to safety, they are kept at a higher level,” said Susan Northrupp, the official US flight surgeon since 2021, but authorities may have unintentionally created a process so burdensome that it prevents pilots from being honest.
