A federal judge in Maryland gave a temporary restraint on Monday that prevents the Department of Education and the Personnel Management Office from the disclosure of sensitive data to members of the so -called Elon Musk government department and who helped them.
The order, issued by Judge Deborah L. Boardman at the Federal Regional Court for the Maryland Region, prevents Mr Musk’s representatives from performing what they have described as a check on the student loan systems for two weeks, while treatment continues.
Judge Boardman wrote that the government had not convincingly argued that Mr Musk’s team members had a real need to access such personal information to perform their duties.
“Doge’s subsidiaries have received access to file systems containing some of the most sensitive data of the plaintiffs – Social Security Numbers, Birth Dates. Personal information troves continue, “Judge Boardman wrote. “There is no reason to believe that their access to this information will end at any time soon, because the government believes that their access is appropriate.”
The US Federation of Teachers, a Union representing more than 1.8 million teachers, had sued to keep members of the MUSK team from the Department’s data systems, which said they contained private information that its members had submitted in relation to the student assistance to themselves or their families.
“We have brought this case to support people’s privacy, because when people give their financial and other personal information to the federal government – that is, to ensure financial assistance for their children to go to college or get a student loan – They expect the data to be protected and used for the reasons intended, are not available for other means, “the team president Randi Weingarten said in a statement.
Last week, a judge in a related case refused to issue a restriction order restricting Mr Musk’s team, finding that the group that brought the lawsuit had not shown that a group of students who had lodged similar complaints had suffered a clear harm from the Their occupation were analyzed by Mr Musk’s subsidiaries.
However, Judge Boardman found that the disclosure of sensitive personal information in Mr Musk’s team was only a particular injury himself, despite hypothetical concerns such as the possibility of identity.
The lawyers who brought the costume demanded that the Ministry of Finance themselves be restricted, but Judge Boardman refused, as a judge in a separate case, had already ruled out Mr Musk’s team from sensitive data there.
He said that he believed that the union of the teacher would prevail in her treatment and that the restraint was necessary until the members of Mr Musk’s group detailed in the training department could explain why they could not make their analysis with data left or repeated sensitive information.
