The senior employee of the Food and Drug Administration Vaccine, Dr. Peter Marks, resigned on Friday, saying in an aggressive letter that Health Minister Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s aggressive stance on vaccines was irresponsible and put the public at risk.
“It has been made clear that truth and transparency are not desirable by the secretary, but rather wants to confirm the misinformation and lies,” wrote Dr. Marks in Sara Brenner, active commissioner of the organization.
Dr. Marks resigned under pressure, according to a person familiar with the issue who stated that an employee with the Ministry of Health and Human Services told Dr. Marks on Friday that he could either give up or be fired.
A few hours earlier in West Virginia, Mr Kennedy claimed that Covid did not kill healthy people, as opposed to research showing that 30 % of those who died early in the pandemic had no underlying conditions. Mr Kennedy has also exposed the value of vitamin A as a treatment during a large measles epidemic in Texas, while deteriorating the value of vaccines. On Thursday, he announced that he had created a new office to study vaccine injuries.
Dr. Marks noted in his letter that measles “who killed more than 100,000 non -vaccinated children in Africa and Asia last year”, due to the complications, was “eliminated by our shores”.
He added that he was willing to deal with Mr Kennedy’s concerns about the safety and transparency of vaccines with a series of public meetings and in collaboration with the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine, but was rejected.
“Undermining trust in established vaccines that have fulfilled high standards for the quality, safety and efficiency that have entered into force for decades on the FDA is irresponsible, detrimental to public health and a clear risk of health, safety and safety of our nation.” Marks.
He continued to express his desire to limit the damage to the current administration.
“My hope is that in the coming years, the unprecedented attack on the scientific truth that has adversely affected public health in our nation is over so that citizens of our country can fully benefit from the breadth of progress in medical science,” he writes. Marks.
Dr. Marks did not respond to a request for comments. One HHS spokesman issued a statement on Friday night: “If Peter Marks does not want to take back on the restoration of science in his golden model and promoting radical transparency, then he has no place in the FDA under the strong leadership of Secretary Kennedy.”
Dr. Marks led the FDA vaccine program during the noisy time of the Coronavirus pandemic, guiding its body and external advisers through multiple decisions on the type of evidence necessary for the granting of emergency authorization for the vaccines produced under the Warp Administration.
In June 2022, he asked an external expert committee to examine the risk posed by the virus to children under 5 years of age. The team later voted on that day to set up vaccines for this age group.
“We must be careful not to confuse the number of pediatric deaths due to the overwhelming number of older deaths here,” said Dr. Marks then.
Dr. Peter Hotez, a vaccine expert from Baylor University, said he regularly spoke with Dr. Marks during the pandemic. “He was extremely dedicated to the use of science to help the American people,” he said. “He was one of the heroes of the pandemic, so I’m sorry to see him go.”
Dr. Peter Lurie, a former FDA commissioner, called it “a real tragedy” when one like Dr. Marks run by “these alleged distortions”.
“He is worried enough about the integrity of the science business,” said Dr.
Mr Kennedy was confirmed by the Senate after a tense two days of listening that included his repeated promises to support the importance of vaccinations. But it has already begun to show signs that it is continuing the type of activities that has been involved in 20 years to deeply undermine the confidence of the vaccine.
During the measles epidemic in Texas, it has promoted the value of alternative drugs and issued lukewarm tips for people to get vaccination. Despite the federal freezing recruitment, his service recently hired a prominent researcher in the anti -vaccine movement to study the long -standing relationship between vaccines and autism.
And on Thursday, Mr Kennedy told Newsnation that he was planning to create a vaccine injury service at the Disease Control and Prevention Centers. He said that the effort was a priority for him and would help bring the “golden science” to the federal government.
Dr. Michael Osterholm, director of the Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, said the study of vaccine injuries has already been a priority for decades. “I am afraid that this is a way to emphasize vaccine injuries in a way that is completely disproportionate to what is the real danger,” he said.
