Minister of Foreign Affairs. Director of the US Organization for International Development. Active Archives for National Archives and Archives. And now a temporary national security adviser to President Trump.
Like a Christmas tree with glossy ornaments of every shape and size, Marco Rubio, 53, has garnered four titles starting from his confirmation as Foreign Minister on January 20, on the same day that Mr Trump took his oath.
It is very good could be a record in modern history of the American government. And he adds to the story of the success of immigrants who are core in the narrative of Mr Rubio, a former Senator from Florida, whose father worked as a bartender and a mother who was as a housekeeper after leaving Cuba for the United States.
But the proliferation of the titles raises questions about whether Mr Rubio can play an essential role in the administration, weighing all these positions, especially under a president who avoids the traditional functioning of the government and appointed a friend of businessman, Steve Witkoff, as a specialist.
Mr Trump announced Mr Rubio’s newest position in a social position of the media on Thursday afternoon, a surprise twisting of the first big staff to mix this administration. The president had just removed Michael Waltz from the work of the White House National Security Advisor, as well as by his deputy Mr. Waltz, Alex Wong. In the same position, Mr Trump said Mr Waltz would now be a candidate as an ambassador to the United Nations.
Mr Rubio’s appointment to yet another job-when it was cloned in a Sci-Fi movie-was so sudden that Tammy Bruce, a foreign ministry spokesman, learned about it when a journalist read Mr Trump’s social media during a regular television.
“Yes, so is the miracle of modern technology and social media,” Ms Bruce said. “So it’s an exciting moment here.”
Looking to try to explain the events that unfold in real time, Ms Bruce said: “We saw him in the White House several times a week, his close working relationship with the president.
The fact that Mr Rubio is now leading four bodies is a sign of not only the confidence given by Mr Trump, but also the close relationship he has with Susie Wiles, the veteran political agent who is the leader of his staff Trump.
Of course, the possession of four jobs also raises more practical issues: Mr. Rubio gets a pay hit? Will it have time to reach around the world to do diplomacy? How will he transfer his duties?
There are previous – species. From 1973-75, Henry Kissinger held two of Mr Rubio’s jobs, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Security in an experiment that was considered a failure. In the current Trump administration, two officials, Kash Patel, the FBI director, and Discoll, the Army Secretary, were also a temporary head of the alcohol, tobacco, guns and explosives, while serving in their most important positions.
But it may be more important to look out of the United States for examples. Xi Jinping, China’s leader, is Secretary General of the Communist Party, President of China and President of the Central Military Committee – is still a job except Mr Rubio.
The Senate unanimously confirmed Mr Rubio being a minister. But he entered other jobs under contested conditions. Mr Trump shot the archivist, Colleen Shogan, in early February in an obvious act of compensation against national archives and archives. The organization’s leaders had raised concerns about Mr Trump’s exploitation in boxes of graded documents at his home in Florida, having left the post in 2021, although Ms Shogan did not participate in this episode.
Four days before Ms Shogan was launched, Mr Rubio announced that he was the USAID active manager, such as Elon Musk, Mr Trump’s billionaire adviser, and Pete Marocco, a politician appointed to the Foreign Ministry, rushed to the organization. Mr Marocco and the members of the Task Force of Mr Musk’s government did the daily work of reducing the organization in a bark, reducing contracts and launching thousands of workers, but Mr Rubio signed the moves.
Mr Rubio moves the remains of the Agency to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Last week he issued a chart for the scheduled reorganization of the department that shows him to maintain the title of USAID manager.
Even before Mr. Trump appoints the leading manager of the Director/Archbishop/Archbishop/Archbishop/Assistance as a Temporary National Security Advisor, some analysts point out problems with Mr. Rubio who holds all these positions.
“The possession of two (or in the case of Rubio, three) roles at the same time is never ideal – the direction of government organizations and programs is an important task that requires attention and focus,” the citizen’s position on responsibility and morality in Washington said. “But Rubio’s current positions are unique.”
The author, Gabriella Cantor, pointed out the obvious conflict of interest: the archive is supposed to ensure that other federal services, including two Mr. Rubio, also maintain records. Now, with the addition of the White House National Security Council, it becomes thorny.
Concerning the issue of Mr Rubio’s (or salaries) salary, the Foreign Ministry did not respond when asked on Thursday afternoon.
