The federal organization responsible for traffic safety, which investigates whether self-guiding technology in Tesla vehicles has played a role in the death of a pedestrian, will shoot a “average” number of employees, a spokesman for the service said late Friday.
The Agency did not say whether one of the fired employees participated in Tesla surveys, whose chief executive Elon Musk is leading the government’s efficiency department installed by President Trump.
The Efficiency Department forces redundancies in numerous government services as part of an attempt to reform federal bureaucracy. Mr Musk has maintained Tesla’s control while spending much of his time in Washington.
The National Traffic Security Service has three active Tesla surveys, according to the Agency’s documents, including one that examines whether the company’s autonomous driver software is prone to failure when visibility is poor.
The redundancies to the traffic security service, which has fewer than 1,000 employees, were reported earlier than the Washington Post. Even after the redundancies, the organization continues to concern more people than at the beginning of Biden’s administration, the organization said in a statement.
“The last administration was increased by NHTSA with a 30 %imposing,” the organization said in a statement.
“We have maintained positions critical to sending life salvation, prevent injuries and reduce economic costs due to road traffic crashes,” the organization said. “We will continue to enforce the law on all motor vehicle and equipment manufacturers.”
Tesla did not respond to a request for comments.
One of the surveys in Tesla is based on four accidents that include technology that the automotive industry calls on the full self-leadership, which can be directed, wound and browse Tesla cars in some cases. In one of the crash, a Tesla hit and killed a pedestrian, according to service documents. In another of the accidents, a person was injured.
Tesla’s self-guiding technology is based on cameras to investigate the environment of a car, as opposed to competitors such as Waymo, a unit of the same company as Google, which also uses lasers and radar to identify objects.
The traffic safety service considers whether Tesla’s technology failed when visibility was poor due to sunshine, fog or dust.
Mr Musk often argued that Tesla self-guiding technology is safer than human drivers.
Technology is also vital to the future and the price of Tesla’s share. As Tesla’s sales have been highlighted, reducing 1 percent last year, even when the global electric vehicle market increased by 25 %, Mr Musk has shifted the company’s focus to autonomous driving technology and plans for a taxi with self- driving.
Technology will help Tesla be the most valuable company in the world, Mr Musk told investors last month.
