The Chinese government will match President Trump’s plan for 34 % invoices for goods from China with its own 34 % invoice on imports from the United States, 34 % said on Friday.
Separately, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said it added 11 US companies to the list of “unreliable entities”, essentially preventing them from doing business in China or Chinese companies. And the ministry has imposed strict limits on the exports of certain elements of rare earths that are almost exclusively mined in China and used in everything, from electric cars to smart bombs.
China’s customs agency also said it would stop the imports of chicken from some of America’s agricultural exporters.
Overall, measures released by three different government services within minutes showed that China has no intention of supporting the trade war that Mr Trump was launched this week with his own abrupt invoices to imports from around the world.
