A truck and a passenger truck carrying a tour clashed in Idaho near the Yellowstone National Park on Thursday night, killing seven people, Idaho State Police said. Both vehicles fired a fire after the crash.
Six of those killed were in the truck, a Mercedes carrying 14 people, said state police. Pickup driver, a Dodge Ram, was also killed.
The crash happened shortly before 7:15 pm On the US Highway 20 near Lake Henry, a popular hiking, cycling and fishing spot in East Idaho, about 15 miles from Yellowstone. The cause was under investigation.
State police said authorities had called for an ambulance and other air and ground resources to respond to the crash due to the severity of the injuries.
Fremont County Coroner, Brenda Dye, recognized the driver and the only owner of receipt as Isaiah Moreno, 25 -year -old, Texas. Mrs Dye said she was expecting the results of DNA tests to identify the six people in the killed truck because the bodies were not recognizable.
All six were outside the United States, Mrs Dye said in an interview on Friday. Two were from Italy, he said, and it was not clear where the other four were. They had participated in a team touring at Yellowstone, he said.
After the crash, two others on the highway jumped out of their vehicle to help, he said. They were “trying to get out as much as they could” from the truck, which emits smoke, Ms Dye said. He said they managed to help eight people from the truck, including a child, fired fire before the truck.
The US Motor 20 closed for almost seven hours, while Emergency Correspondents and Idaho Transport Department worked to manage the scene and clean the way, state police said.
